At present, Judith Laura is taking only a very limited number of new students, whom she teaches in-person in the DC area, either individually or in groups of no more of three students. The groups of 2 and 3 students are friends who have decided to take one or more classes together because they all want to study the same Tarot topic and can schedule a class at the same time.

Judith no longer teaches the very beginning aspects of Tarot; that is, the meaning of the individual cards. In her experience, it is much more cost-effective and beneficial for the student to get this information from books or free online sources, such as Bunning's Learning the Tarot--and from the student's own response to the cards.  Many decks come with what Tarotists call a "little white book," which gives brief meanings or keywords of the cards for that deck. Many decks also have larger books written by the deck creator  or collaborator specifically for that deck. Judith recommends starting with some version of the Waite-Smith deck (such as the Rider deck, Universal Waite, etc.) and using the book, Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom by Rachel Pollack for help in learning the meaning of the cards. In any case, Judith strongly recommends that your first learning deck be one in which all the cards have pictures on them. (Some decks, particularly early decks such as Marseilles, 1jjSuisse and, to a certain extent, Thoth, have pictures only on the Trumps and court cards. For most people this makes learning the meanings more difficult because you have to memorize the book meanings of the pips (suited cards).

Judith believes the type of teaching she does works best when students have learned the basic meanings of the cards--or are a bit more advanced--but need a little boost in progressing even farther. Often only one or two sessions are needed.  Class topics may include, but are not limited to, working with spreads, understanding the question, understanding the answer(s), delivering the message, spread-less reading, creating your own spreads, etc. When you contact Judith, you should be prepared to tell her what you want to learn.

Judith's teaching fee is $150 for a session of 90 minutes. If you have one or two friends who want to take the same class at the same time, you can split the fee.  Current teaching hours are in the afternoons only.
